Trial upon Abraham and Isaac, the meaning of “one mighty and strong”: firm, steadfast, immovable, of good courage

A man had two sons,
and he came to the first, and said: Son, go work to day in my vineyard.

He answered and said: I will not.
But afterward, he repented, and went.

And he came to the second, and said likewise.
And he answered, and said: I, sir.
And went not.

-A similitude put forth by the Firstborn come in the flesh, in part concerning Himself;
this is Matthew 21:28-30 in connection with the better-known
“similitude/parable of the prodigal son” of Luke 15.

Zechariah 4:5-6,8,10; 4:13 thru 5:4
Then the angel that talked with me, answered, and said unto me:
Knowest thou not what these be?

And I said:
No, my lord.

Then he answered, and spake unto me, saying:
This, the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying –

Not by might nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.
Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying: (…)
who hath despised the day of small things?
And he answered me, and said:
Knowest thou not what these?

And I said:
No, my lord.

Then said he:
These, the two anointed ones {“two”, “fresh oil”, ben – “sons”}
that stand by the Lord of the whole earth.

Then I turned, and lifted up mine eyes, and looked;
and behold, a flying roll. And he said unto me:
What seest thou?

And I answered:
I see a flying roll;
the length thereof, twenty cubits;
and the breadth thereof, ten cubits.

Then said he unto me:
This, the curse that goeth forth over the face of the whole earth,
for every one that stealeth, shall be cut off on this side according to it;
and every one that sweareth, shall be cut off on that side according to it.
I will bring it forth, saith the LORD of hosts,
and it shall enter into the house of the thief
and into the house of him that sweareth falsely by my name;
and it shall remain in the midst of his house,
and shall consume it with the timber thereof and the stones thereof.

“out of small things proceedeth that which is great.” A Book of Commandments (1833), CHAPTER LXV.

“by small means, the Lord can bring about great things.” The first book of Nephi.

“by small and simple things, are great things brought to pass” The book of Alma.

Of the Holy Spirit, came “a still, small voice” unto Elijah the prophet. (1 Kings 19:12)

And in the first book of Nephi,
an explanation of the varying measures, or degrees, of the spirit (light)
of revelation and prophecy:

How is it, that ye have not hearkened unto the word of the Lord?
How is it, that ye have forgotten that ye have seen an angel of the Lord?

Yea, and how is it, that ye have forgotten how great things the Lord hath done for us,
in delivering us out of the hands of Laban, and also that we should obtain the record?
Yea, and how is it, that ye have forgotten that the Lord is able to do all things according to His will,
for the children of men, if it so be that they exercise faith in Him?
Wherefore, let us be faithful in Him.
the Lord esteemeth all flesh in one; he that is righteous, is favored of God.
Ye are swift to do iniquity, but slow to remember the Lord your God.
Ye have seen an angel, and he spake unto you;
yea, ye have heard His voice from time to time, and He hath spoken unto you in a still, small voice,
but ye were past feeling, that ye could not feel His words;
wherefore, he hath spoken unto you, like unto the voice of thunder
which did cause the earth to shake, as if it were to divide asunder;
and ye also know that by the power of His almighty Word, He can cause the earth that it shall pass away.

And as the martyr prophet Abinadi (before the carnal advent of the sane, WHOLE, HOLY messiah the Firstborn, even the Only Begotten Son)
did expound upon Isaiah 52 and 53:

And now I say unto you: Who shall declare His generation?
Behold, I say unto you that when His soul has been made an offering for sin, He shall see his seed.
And now what say ye?
And who shall be His seed?

Behold, I say unto you that whosoever hath heard the words of the prophets
– yea, all the HOLY prophets which have prophesied concerning the coming of the Lord –
I say unto that
all those who hath hearkened unto their words, and believed that the Lord would redeem His people,
and have looked forward to that day for a remission of their sins,
I say unto you that these are His seed; or, they are heirs of the Kingdom of God,
for these are they whose sins He hath borne;
these are they for whom He hath died to redeem them from their transgressions.
And now, are they not His seed?

Yea, and are not the prophets,
every one that has opened his mouth to prophesy – that has NOT FALLEN into transgression – I mean all the HOLY prophets
ever since the world began, I say unto you that they are His seed, and these are they which hath published peace,
that hath brought good tidings of good, that hath published salvation,
that saith unto Zion:

Thy God reigneth!

And, O how beautiful upon the mountains were their feet!
And again: How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of those that are still publishing peace!
And again: How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of those who shall hereafter publish peace –
yea, from this time henceforth and forever!
And behold, I say unto you: This is not all.

For, O how beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of Him
that bringeth good tidings, that is the Founder of Peace.
Yea, even the Lord who hath redeemed His people.
Yea, Him who hath granted salvation unto His people.

For, were it not for the redemption which He hath made for His people,
which was prepared from the foundation of the world – I say unto you – were it not for this,
that all mankind must have perished; but behold,
the bands of death shall be broken, and
the Son reigneth, and hath power over the dead.
Therefore He bringeth to pass, the resurrection of the dead.

-The book of Mosiah

Exodus 22:28-30
Thou shalt not revile Eloheim, nor curse the ruler of thy people.

Thou shalt not delay the first of thy ripe fruits, and of thy liquors.
The firstborn of thy sons, shalt thou give unto me.
Likewise, shalt thou do with thine oxen, with thy sheep;
seven days it shall be with his dam;
on the eighth day, thou shalt give it me.

Psalm 89:26-39
He shall cry unto me: Thou – my Father, my God, and the rock of my salvation.

Also I will make him, firstborn – higher than the kings of the earth.
My mercy, will I keep for him for evermore;
and my covenant shall stand fast with him.
His seed also will I make for ever; and his throne, as the days of heaven;
if his children forsake my law, and walk not in my judgments,
if they break my statutes, and keep not my commandments,
then will I visit their transgression with the rod; and their iniquity, with stripes;
nevertheless, my lovingkindness will I not utterly take from him, nor suffer my faithfulness to fail.
My covenant, will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.
Once, have I sworn by my holiness that I will not lie unto David;
his seed shall endure for ever; and his throne, as the Sun before me;
it shall be established for ever as the moon, and a faithful witness in heaven. Selah.

But thou hast cast off, and abhorred;
thou hast been wroth with thine anointed {messiah};
thou hast made void the covenant of thy servant;
thou hast profaned his crown, to the ground.

Ezekiel 14:9
And if the prophet be deceived when he hath spoken a thing,
I the LORD have deceived that prophet;
and I will stretch out my hand upon him, and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel.

Isaiah 48:4-16 (also quoted in the first book of Nephi)
Because I knew that thou obstinate, and thy neck an iron sinew, and thy brow brass,
I have even from the beginning, declared to thee;
before it came to pass I shewed thee, lest thou shouldest say:

Mine idol hath done them; and my graven image and my molten image hath commanded them.

Thou hast heard, see all this, and will not ye declare?
I have shewed thee new things from this time, even hidden things, and thou didst not know them.
They are created now, and not from the beginning, even before the day when thou heardest them not, {here an insertion is found in the first book of Nephi, they were declared unto thee, } lest thou shouldest say:

Behold, I knew them.

Yea, thou heardest not; yea, thou knewest not
– yea, from that time, thine ear was not opened –
for I knew that thou wouldest deal very treacherously, and wast called a transgressor from the womb.
For my name’s sake, will I defer mine anger;
and for my praise, will I refrain for {from, in “1st Nephi”} thee, that I cut thee not off.

Behold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction.
For mine own sake, for mine own sake, will I do, for how should be polluted? {in “1st Nephi”, I will not suffer my name to be polluted.}
And I will not give my glory unto another.
Hearken unto me, O Jacob {supplanter} and Israel, my called;
I, He; I the first {alpha}, I also the last {omega};
mine hand also hath laid the foundation of the earth,
and my right hand hath spanned the heavens – I call unto them – they stand up together.
All ye, assemble yourselves, and hear;
which among them hath declared these? The LORD hath loved him.
He will do His pleasure on Babylon; and His arm, the Chaldeans.
I, I have spoken; yea, I have called him; I have brought him, and he shall make his way prosperous.

Come ye, near unto me; hear ye, this;
I have not spoken in secret from the beginning; from the time that it was, there I;
and now, the Lord GOD and His Spirit hath sent me.

Joshua 1:5-8
As I was with Moses, I will be with thee.
I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
Be strong, and of a good courage;
for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance,
the land which I sware unto their fathers to give them;
only be thou strong, and very courageous,
that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law which Moses my servant commanded thee;
turn not from it, the right hand or the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.
This Book of the Law shall not depart out of thy mouth, but thou shalt meditate therein day and night,
that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein,
for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous;
and then, thou shalt have good success.

“And again, I would that ye should learn that it is he only who is saved, that endureth unto the end; even so: Amen.” A word of the resurrected and glorified Firstborn, given via the fourthborn come in the flesh, whose soul had previously taken the place of the thirdborn male spirit who is now ex-Lucifer; said revelation is dated to June 1831, and in this textual arrangement it was first published in 1833, and then the same words with slightly different punctuation in 1835; and the present, 1981-published version is as follows:

“And again, I would that ye should learn that he only is saved who endureth unto the end. Even so. Amen.”

<same meaning>

Now, some degree or measure of suffering and adversity in the flesh,
even in the days of one’s probation upon earth, is required of God the Eternal Father
for redemption from the consequences of the deliberate fall of father Adam the First Man,
but the several, numerous sufferings, while in the flesh,

<the incredibly unsanitary living conditions of millions in India, for example>

shall not be so excruciating as that of his Only Begotten the Lamb of God;
such is the Eternal God’s unchanging plan of salvation
from being subject to death and decomposition, whether it be
death of the body of blood and bones while in this the Second Estate, or in the world to come,
death of the soul of any which shall be judged to be perdition by Christ and his Father,
even upon being resurrected from the dead,
and standing before the pleading bar of the great YHVH;
however, that male spirit son which had first stood
in his birthright office of holy ghost (lightbearer) in connection with this planet,
coveted after the birthright office of the firstborn of the Archangel Mikael,
which Beloved Son by reason of an eternal law of the Holy Priesthood of the Celestial Kingdom
is reserved unto the Supreme Creator which presides over His own quorum of Archangels,
yea the original Lucifer incurred his own fallen status as ex-Holy Ghost
by his willful PERSISTENCE to play a master politician (i.e. a demagogue, and one parricidal, for which reason that former “son of the morning” fell from the grace divine and his immunities to be the first of the sons of perdition, in connection with this world) by appealing to the popular and baser sentiments (no one willeth to undergo and to be tried by afflictions, not Christ nor any other soul)
prevalent among the Lord’s spirit sons and daughters which are assigned to this planet, and
thereby this adversary against God deceived, and drew away one-third (as testified of by John the Revelator)
of the MALE spirit offspring of the soon-to-be Ancient of Days the Prince of this planet,
unto himself whom we call Satan, even that chief devil (slanderer/false accuser),
the old Serpent/Dragon which character fell so steeply from Light down into Darkness:

Luke 10:17-18 “And the seventy returned again with joy, saying: Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name. And he said unto them: I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.”

As it is testified of, by father Lehi, the devil and his hosts are most miserable, knowing their ultimate end, and they desire the same end for as many as out of all those souls, you and I, that kept their First Estate by not openly rebelling against the Father and the Son. And how did the originator of mind-control techniques campaign in the Kingdom of Heaven to instigate an open rebellion against the Government and the eternal order of Heaven? Satan preached that suffering in the flesh (undergoing trials on earth, after receiving a body of mortality) is not necessary for salvation, that he can save every single soul – in a manner of speaking, by the means of ‘robotic’ compulsion – wherefore, said the head devil: Father, I ought to be the primary Messiah, for I am clever. On the other hand, the real-life primary Messiah (and now the only one to hold the office of messiah for this planet, since April 2009) humbly said, before Adam and Eve would be transplanted into that fabled Garden of this earth, from a Celestial planet of the highest heavens: Father, may thy will be done. Well, the secondborn male spirit put on a good show in helping his father Michael to drive out all those unclean male spirits out of the Celestial Kingdom of the Eternal Father the God of/over Jesus and Michael, notwithstanding he harbored a sympathy for the devil in his heart, thinking to somehow hide his true intentions from the Eternal Father, and vainly imagining the Lords of Heaven could not possibly foresee the future; but every single human being, in the days of his or her probation, shall betray his or her true nature, be it for the good, or for the perditon, or for somewhere in between these the two opposites of light vs. darkness. Yea, as the most basic reason for the existence of evil in this world was once again revealed in 1830, through one Joseph Smith, Junior the Holy Ghost of this earth come in the flesh:

And I the Lord God, spake unto Moses, saying:
That Satan whom thou hast commanded in the name of mine Only Begotten,
is the same which was from the beginning, and he came before me, saying:

Behold, here am I. Send me.
I will be thy Son, and I will redeem ALL mankind,
that one soul shall not be lost, and surely I will do it; wherefore,
give me thine Honor.

But behold, my Beloved Son which was my beloved and chosen from the beginning,
said unto me:

Father, thy will be done, and the Glory be thine forever.

Wherefore, because that Satan rebelled against me, and sought to DESTROY the AGENCY of man,
which I the Lord God had given him
– and also that I should give unto him mine own Power –
by the Power of mine Only Begotten, I caused that he should be cast down, and he became Satan,
yea, even the Devil the father of ALL LIES,
to deceive, and to blind men, and to lead them captive at his will,
even as many as would not hearken unto my Voice.

One’s true character is put on full display, when it appears as if no one is looking;
but behold, the Almighty knoweth all things,
and discerneth the thoughts of all men, and their hearts He seeth through quite clearly;
and it is recorded in the book of Alma,
“all is as one day with God, and time only is measured unto men”;
so, God being a God of foreknowledge, He sets up His chess pieces accordingly,
for as John the beloved disciple of Christ testified,
that war in Heaven has been transferred to Earth.

Psalm 58:1-3
Do ye indeed speak righteousness, O congregation?
Do ye judge uprightly, O ye sons of men?
Yea, in heart ye work wickedness;
ye weigh the violence of your hands in the earth.
The wicked are estranged from the womb;
they go astray as soon as they be born, speaking lies.

A reminder of the book of Isaiah (more accurately), from the second book of Nephi:

Forasmuch as this people draw near unto me with their mouth, and with their lips do honor me, but have removed their hearts far from me, and their fear towards me is taught by the precepts of men – therefore I will proceed to do a marvelous work among this people; yea, a marvelous work and a wonder, for the wisdom of their wise and learned shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent shall be hid.

And wo unto them that seek deep to hide their counsel from the Lord!
And their works are in the dark, and they say:
Who seeth us?
And who knoweth us?

And they also say:
Surely your turning of things upside down, shall be esteemed as the potter’s clay.

But behold, I will show unto them, saith the Lord of hosts, that I know all their works.
For shall the work say of him that made it – He made me not – ?
Or, shall the thing framed say of him that framed it – He had no understanding – ?

Therefore, may ye be RECONCILED to the will of the Lord Omnipotent,
(for God don’t spoil His children.)

“Turn ye unto me, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will turn unto you, saith the LORD of hosts.” Zechariah 1:3.

A very narrow space of time yet remains unto mankind (even those that ought to know better) to repent of their secret resentments against the Father and the Son, including myself which am vested with the Holy Priesthood, holding a portion of all the keys thereof (held by Christ under the direction of his Father), but not all; but I do hold what is sufficient and expedient for you and me, if ye would exercise faith in yourselves first, to have confidence in the obvious that is nevertheless invisible to the eyes of flesh (almost all the time by the will of God), to believe the miraculously preserved holy writ, however imperfect the Bible may be (the text of your Tyndale-and-1611-based English Bible is not far from 100% reliability), to trust that there is such a thing as the holy spirit poured out of the heavens, even God’s intelligence shed forth of the true guiding Spirit of all humble, repentant men and women on Earth, and that there really was one Jesus of Nazareth who walked the earth, and obeyed his Father to sacrifice himself for the sins of men and women throughout history (before his time, during, and after), so that our souls need not be tormented by foul spirits in this world nor in the world to come; and I do solemnly testify unto you that I have beheld foul spirits, even literal devils of the spiritual kind, besides the ones in the flesh you and I are able to behold everyday; yes, and on occasions not a few — Darkness indeed. Having obtained largely-undeserved grace divine, only because of the innocent blood of the Lamb of God – in His name the Christ, I preach unto you faith (and sincere prayers in the name of Jesus Christ, unto His Father the Eternal God, that ye may obtain knowledge of God, and spiritually may discern these things for yourselves); and I also exhort you unto hope, charity, repentance, and then the baptism by immersion in water and the laying on of the hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost, by virtue of the authority of the Priesthood of Melchizedek, the which has been committed unto me; and after having exercised your faith to do thus, and to receive thus, ye must then enter into the United Firm (nicknamed “United Order”) with me, the keys (knowledge) of which I hold (yea, the Spirit witnesses of the same, as I write this very moment), if ye will fulfill (obedience to Christ is ‘godliness’; ‘meekness’ signifies patience, not cowardice) the following commandment of the Lord of hosts that is addressed unto us of the last days in Babylon the great:

Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues;
for her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.
Reward her, even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double according to her works;
in the cup which she hath filled, fill to her double.
How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her, for she saith in her heart:

I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.

Therefore, shall her plagues come in ONE DAY – death and mourning and famine –
and she shall be utterly burned with fire,
for strong [is] the Lord God who judgeth her.

-Apokalypsis 18:4-8

Lukas 17:26-30
And as it was in the days of Noah,
so shall it be also in the days of the Son of Man;
they did eat, they drank; they married wives, they were given in marriage,
until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all;
likewise also, as it was in the days of Lot;
they did eat, they drank; they bought, they sold; they planted, they builded,
but the same day that Lot went out of Sodom, it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed all — even thus shall it be, in the day when the Son of Man is revealed.

The planet Venus is known as both
the “morning star” and the “evening star”;
The Evening and the Morning Star
was the name of the first-ever newspaper (from Jun. 1832 to Sep. 1834) of
the Church of Christ, which soon afterwards came to be called
the Church of Jesus Christ of (Latter-Day)/(Latter-day) Saints;
decades later, this congregation of God’s congregations became
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,
quite literally a corporate entity to which it was transformed not long after 1918,
“that great and abominable church, the whore of all the earth,
must tumble to the earth; and great must be the fall thereof”,
as prophesied in the second book of Nephi.

It is reported to us by means of the Matthew 24:10-14 passage,
these words of “a messiah”, even the one standing in this office of messiah, and NOT unholy:

And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another;
and many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many;
and because iniquity shall abound, the charity of many shall wax cold;
but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved;
and this glad tidings of the Kingdom,
shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations,
and then shall the end come.

Moreover, this same Lord Yesu prophesied after this manner:

And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple;
for which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost,
whether he have to finish?
Lest haply after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish,
all that behold, begin to mock him, saying:
This man began to build, and was not able to finish.

-Luke 14:27-30

Ye are the salt of the earth,
but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted?
It is thenceforth good for nothing,
but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

-Matthew 5:13

For the Kingdom of Heaven is like unto a man,
an householder which went out early in the morning to hire labourers into his vineyard;
and when he had agreed with the labourers for a penny a day, he sent them into his vineyard.
And he went out about the third hour,
and saw others standing idle in the marketplace, and said unto them:

Go ye also into the vineyard; and whatsoever is expedient, I will give you.

And they went their way.
Again he went out about the sixth and ninth hour, and did likewise.
And about the eleventh hour, he went out, and found others standing idle, and saith unto them:

Why stand ye here all the day idle?

They say unto him:
Because no man hath hired us.

He saith unto them:
Go ye also into the vineyard; and whatsoever is opportune, shall ye receive.

So when even was come, the lord of the vineyard saith unto his steward:
Call the labourers, and give them hire, beginning from the last unto the first.

And when they came, that about the eleventh hour, they received every man a penny;
but when the first came, they supposed that they should have received more.
And they likewise received every man a penny; and when they had received,
they murmured against the goodman of the house, saying:

These last have wrought one hour,
and thou hast made them equal unto us which have borne the burden and heat of the day.

But he answered one of them, and said:
Friend, I do thee no wrong.
Didst not thou agree with me for a penny?
Take thine, and go thy way; I will give unto this last, even as unto thee.
Is it not lawful for me to do what I will, with mine own?
Is thine eye evil, because I am good?

So the last shall be first; and the first, last.
For many be called, but few chosen.

-Matthew 20:1-16

Wherefore, by their fruits ye shall know them.
Not every one that saith unto me – Lord, Lord – shall enter into the Kingdom of Heaven,
but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven;
many will say to me in that day:

Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name?
And in thy name, have cast out devils?
And in thy name, done many wonderful works?

And then, will I profess unto them:
I never knew you. Depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Therefore, whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them,
I will liken him unto a wise man which built his house upon a rock;
and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house;
and it fell not, for it was founded upon a rock.

And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not,
shall be likened unto a foolish man which built his house upon the sand;
and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house;
and it fell, and great was the fall of it.

-Matthew 7:20-27

he that is built upon the rock, receiveth it with gladness;
and he that is built upon a sandy foundation, trembleth, lest he shall fall.

-second book of Nephi

I will be merciful unto the Gentiles,
unto the visiting of the remnant of the house of Israel in great judgment.

And it came to pass that the angel of the Lord spake unto me, saying:
Behold, saith the Lamb of God, after that I have visited the remnant of the house of Israel
– and this remnant of which I speak, is the seed of thy father –
wherefore after that I have visited them in judgment, and smitten them by the hand of the Gentiles,
and after that the Gentiles do stumble exceedingly
because of the most plain and precious parts of the gospel of the Lamb,
which hath been kept back by that abominable church {of Rome, in this context}
which is the mother of harlots, saith the Lamb, wherefore
I will be merciful unto the Gentiles in that day, saith the Lamb,
insomuch that I will bring forth unto them in mine own power, much of my gospel,
which shall be plain and precious, saith the Lamb.

For behold, saith the Lamb:
I will manifest myself unto thy seed, that they shall write many things which I shall minister unto them,
which shall be plain and precious; and after that thy seed shall be destroyed, and dwindle in unbelief,
and also the seed of thy brethren,
behold, these things shall be hid up,
to come forth unto the Gentiles by the gift and power of the Lamb.

And in them shall be written my gospel, saith the Lamb, and my rock and my salvation.

-first book of Nephi, in The Book of Mormon

blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in;
and so all Israel shall be saved as it is written:

There shall come out of Zion, the deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Iacob,
for this, my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.

As concerning the gospel, enemies for your sakes;
but as touching the election, beloved for the fathers’ sakes, for the gifts and calling of God, without repentance; for, as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief, even so have these also now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy, for God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all.

-Romans 11:25-32

Therefore, whoso heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them,
I will liken him unto a wise man which built his house upon a rock;
and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house,
and it fell not, for it was founded upon a rock;
and every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not,
shall be likened unto a foolish man which built his house upon the sand;
and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house,
and it fell, and great was the fall of it.

-3 Nephi

Paul (of the tribe of Benyamin) did write,
the love of money is the root of all evil” (1 Timothy 6:10, the 1611 English Bible, and the several editions thereof); the same passage, the martyr William Tyndale had translated previously as,
covetousness is root of all evil“; review the ten commandments of the Eternal Father, which were given to ancient Israel through Moses.

We see something strange in connection
with us as a people — the
world follows us, and too many of us
follow after the world. Can the world
give you the light that you have received,
and the Gospel and the hopes
of heaven you have received, and the
Priesthood you have received? And
will you barter these things for a
mess of pottage, and wallow in the
filth, corruption, iniquity, and evils
which abound in the world?

-John Taylor, Journal of Discourses 18:141

there shall be no other name given, nor no
other way nor means whereby salvation can come unto the
children of men, only in and through the name of Christ, the
Lord Omnipotent (…)
(…) the natural
man is an enemy to God, and has been, from the fall of Adam,
and will be, forever and ever; but if he yieldeth to the enticings
of the Holy Spirit, and putteth off the natural man, and becometh
a saint, through the atonement of Christ, the Lord, and becometh
as a child, submissive, meek, humble, patient, full of
love, willing to submit to all things which the Lord seeth fit to
inflict upon him, even as a child doth submit to his father. And
moreover, I say unto you, that the time shall come, when the
knowledge of a Saviour shall spread throughout every nation,
kindred, tongue, and people. And behold, when that time
cometh, none shall be found blameless before God, except it

AT this point in our history we deem it proper to
introduce a series of anecdotes and reminiscences relat-
ing to President Kimball, nearly all of which were con-
tributed, at the author’s invitation, especially for this
work. These flowers of incident culled from the gar-
dens of recollection, cannot fail to interest the reader,
while they illustrate, as nothing else could, the character
and conduct of this remarkable man.
COL. ROBERT SMITH, a veteran friend of President
Kimball’s, and for many years almost like a member of
his family, says:
“At one time, putting his hand on his heart, he
remarked that unless a man knew that Jesus was the
Christ, he could not stand in this Church.

“I cheerfully contribute the following, concerning
one of the greatest prophets of the nineteenth century–
Heber C. Kimball: In 1856 a little group of friends,
convened in the House of the Lord, were engaged in
pleasant conversation on the isolated condition of the
Latter-day Saints.

” ‘Yes,’ said Brother Heber (by which name he
was so familiarly known), ‘we think we are secure here
in the chambers of the everlasting hills, where we can
close those few doors of the canyons against mobs and
persecutors, the wicked and the vile, who have always
beset us with violence and robbery, but I want to say to
you, my brethren, the time is coming when we will be
mixed up in these now peaceful valleys to that extent
that it will be difficult to tell the face of a Saint from the
face of an enemy to the people of God. Then, brethren,
look out for the great sieve, for there will be a great sift-
ing time, and many will fall; for I say unto you there is
a test, a TEST, a TEST coming, and who will be able to

“The emphasis with which those words were spoken
I shall never forget.
“While working with him in the House of the Lord
in 1856-7, how often I have heard him speak against
pride and covetousness and the fear of riches, being
fearful of the Lord’s displeasure and consequent judg-
ments. Said he: ‘If the Saints will repent, the Lord’s
wrath will be turned away, but they will not repent until
it is too late.’ ”

“My first intimate acquaintance with President
Kimball occurred in 1868, I being then in charge of the
Tithing Office at Provo. He often called into the office
to do business. His public discourses about this time
were the most earnest and impressive that I had ever
heard; and on several occasions in the Provo meeting
house, he clearly foreshadowed the time of trial the
Saints are now passing through, and to a period still
before us. He often used the language. ‘A test, a test
is coming.’

Heber C. Kimball, Journal of Discourses 8:275
Now, brethren, do not be alarmed,
but let everything pass away that is
corrupt: for the Almighty says that
everything that can be shaken will
be, and that which cannot be shaken
will remain. The work of our God
will move on, let the world do as they
please, and they wont be able to
riddle out anything except that which
ought to be riddled out.

“Behold, now it is called today until the coming of the Son of Man, and verily it is a day of sacrifice, and a day for the tithing of my people; for he that is tithed shall not be burned at his coming.”

-A promise of the Lord given via Joseph the prophet on Sep. 11, 1831, as published in the 1981 edition of the Utah version of the Book of Covenants, section 64, verse 23.

In connection with prophecies of the day of burning towards the conclusion of these the last days, especially in view of what almost certainly appears to be a Red Chinese submarine launching of an advanced missile just off the coast of southern California in November 2010, as captured in video by a television crew, I quote one of the first written revelations received by the apostle Joseph (one apparently dated some time from March 1829; obtained by means of a seer stone in Joseph’s possession), even in its originally published form in 1833, in the 4th chapter of A Book of Commandments the precursor publication to D&Cthe entire paragraph 6 therein:

“6 And now if this generation do harden their hearts against my word, behold I will deliver them up unto satan, for he reigneth and hath much power at this time, for he hath got great hold upon the hearts of the people of this generation: and not far from the iniquities of Sodom and Gomorrah, do they come at this time: and behold the sword of justice hangeth over their heads, and if they persist in the hardness of their hearts, the time cometh that it must fall upon them. Behold I tell you these things even as I also told the people of the destruction of Jerusalem, and my word shall be verified at this time as it hath hitherto been verified.”

“For my sword shall be bathed in heaven: behold, it shall come down upon Idumea, and upon the people of my curse, to judgment. (…) For [it is] the day of the LORD’s vengeance, [and] the year of recompences for the controversy of Zion. And the streams thereof shall be turned into pitch, and the dust thereof into brimstone, and the land thereof shall become burning pitch. It shall not be quenched night nor day; the smoke thereof shall go up for ever: from generation to generation it shall lie waste; none shall pass through it for ever and ever. (…) Seek ye out of the book of the LORD, and read: no one of these shall fail, none shall want her mate: for my mouth it hath commanded, and his spirit it hath gathered them. And he hath cast the lot for them, and his hand hath divided it unto them by line: they shall possess it for ever, from generation to generation shall they dwell therein.” Isaiah 34:5,8-10,16-17.

In the manner of the prophet Isaiah of old, Joseph served as a prophet, and not as a seer, when he received from the Holy Ghost the following ‘echo’ of a part of the book of Isaiah, as printed in Section I of Part Second of the 1835 Doctrine and Covenants, as also found in Chapter I of 1833 Book of Commandments, as well as in section 1 of the present, 1981 edition of “D&C”, reliably dated Nov. 1, 1831, in the Lord’s own words via Joseph his presiding apostle: “2 (…) my Preface unto the Book of my Commandments, which I have given them to publish unto you, O inhabitants of the earth: Wherefore fear and tremble, O ye people for what I the Lord have decreed, in them, shall be fulfilled“, as follows:

6. And again, verily I say unto you, O inhabitants of the earth, I the Lord am willing to make these things known unto all flesh, for I am no respecter of persons, and willeth that all men shall know that the day speedily cometh, the hour is not yet, but is nigh at hand, when peace shall be taken from the earth, and the devil shall have power over his own dominion; and also, the Lord shall have power over his saints, and shall reign in their midst, and shall come down in judgment upon Idumea, or the world.

{Some months ago while reading aloud one evening, all of said Section 1 of the 1981 D&C, in several instances I was filled with light of the Holy Ghost, as a witness unto me; thus I bear record unto you that the same scripture is verily of the Lord God of Israel, amen, yea truly and faithfully.}

A key counsel uttered by the resurrected Messiah (see “3 Nephi”):

“And now behold, I say unto you that ye had ought to search these things; yea, a commandment I give unto you that ye search these things diligently, for great is the words of Isaiah, for surely he spake as touching all things concerning my people which are of the house of Israel; therefore, it must needs be that he must speak also to the Gentiles; and all things that he spake, hath been, and shall be, even according to the words which he spake. Therefore, give heed to my words, write the things which I have told you; and according to the time and the will of the Father, they shall go forth unto the Gentiles; and whosoever will hearken unto my words, and repenteth, and is baptized, the same shall be saved. Search the Prophets; for many there be, that testify of these things.”

Moroni himself delivers the same message unto us — “the eternal purposes of the Lord shall roll on, until all his promises shall be fulfilled. Search the prophecies of Isaiah.” Book of Mormon, a book in the Book of Mormon.

Isaiah 10:12-18
Wherefore it shall come to pass, when the Lord hath performed
his whole work upon mount Zion and on the New Jerusalem,
I will punish the fruit of the stout heart of the king of Assyria
and the glory of his high looks, for he saith:

By the strength of my hand, I have done; and by my wisdom, for I am prudent.
And I have removed the bounds of the people,
and have robbed their treasures,
and I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant.
And my hand hath found as a nest, the riches of the people;
and as one gathereth eggs left, have I gathered all the earth;
and there was none that moved the wing, or opened the mouth, or peeped.

Shall the axe boast itself against him that heweth therewith?
Shall the saw magnify itself against him that shaketh it?
As if the rod should shake against them that lift it up?
as if the staff should lift up? Not wood?
Therefore shall the Lord the Lord of hosts send among his fat ones, leanness;
and under his glory, he shall kindle a burning like the burning of a fire.
And the light of Israel shall be for a fire; and his Holy One, for a flame;
and it shall burn and devour his thorns and his briers in one day,
and shall consume the glory of his forest, and of his fruitful field, both soul and body;
and they shall be as when a standardbearer fainteth.

To quote that noted leader of the government of the Roman Republic of old,
(as translated into the English tongue),
one Marcus Tullius Cicero who addressed the Roman Senate after this manner:

“For this day’s work, lords, you have encouraged treason and opened the prison doors to free the traitors. A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and he carries his banners openly against the city. But the traitor moves among those within the gates freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears no traitor; he speaks in the accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their garments, and he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation; he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of a city; he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to be feared. The traitor is the carrier of the plague. You have unbarred the gates of Rome to him.”

Again, Moroni forewarns unto the future (even in our day) normal, sane folks in America by revelations of the Lord — “And whatsoever nation shall uphold such secret combinations – to get power and gain – until they shall spread over the nation, behold, they shall be destroyed, for the Lord will not suffer that the blood of his saints, which shall be shed by them, shall always cry unto him from the ground for vengeance upon them, and yet he avengeth them not; wherefore, O ye Gentiles, it is wisdom in God that these things should be shewn unto you, that thereby ye may repent of your sins, and suffer not that these murderous combinations shall get above you – which are built up to get power and gain – and the work, yea even the work of destruction come upon you; yea, even the Sword of the justice of the Eternal God, shall fall upon you to your overthrow and destruction, if ye shall suffer these things to be.”

“Gather my saints together unto me, those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice.” Psalm 50:5.

“And blessed is whosoever shall not be offended in me.” Yesu of Nazareth (Matthew 11:6, Luke 7:23).

“And at that day, when I shall come in my glory, shall the parable be fulfilled which I spake concerning the ten virgins. For they that are wise and have received the truth, and have taken the Holy Spirit for their guide, and have not been deceived — verily I say unto you, they shall not be hewn down and cast into the fire, but shall abide the day. And the earth shall be given unto them for an inheritance; and they shall multiply and wax strong, and their children shall grow up without sin unto salvation. For the Lord shall be in their midst, and his glory shall be upon them, and he will be their King and their Lawgiver.”

Isaiah 33:22
YHVH, our Judge;
YHVH, our Lawgiver;
YHVH, our King;
He will save us.

A relevant Isaiah 10 passage, as spelled out in the second book of Nephi —
The remnant shall return, yea even the remnant of Jacob, unto the mighty God.
And it shall come to pass in that day that
his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder,
and his yoke from off thy neck,
and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.

{to be “a prince in Israel”, even to be the first member of the General Council of the kingdom of God on earth; previously having been ordained to the office of seventy, which office also circumscribes the Apostleship, and subsequently ordained to the office of apostle in the quorum of the twelve “in the church of Jesus Christ” — although if my predecessor, the counterfeit one mighty and strong (as well as false, i.e. unfaithful, Messiah, so that now only Jesus of Nazareth the Firstborn stands in the office of Messiah), had more than a superficial understanding of the Book of Mormon and the gospel restoration through Joseph and Oliver, he would have known better to call it, the church of Christ; also peruse Ezekiel 14:9 and the 85th section of the 1981 Utah Book of Covenants.}

Psalm 40:1-3
I waited patiently for the LORD, and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry;
he brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay,
and set my feet upon a rock, established my goings;
and he hath put a new song in my mouth, praise unto our God;
many shall see and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.

There was a man in ancient times,
named David, and because he was
a man after God’s own heart, the
Lord chose him to be king over
Israel. The Lord also greatly blessed
this man, and poured out richly
upon him the spirit of prophecy
and revelation, and many of his
psalms, which we now sing with
so much pleasure in our meetings,
contain prophecies relating to the
most remote generations of the human

Psalm 41:9–12
Yea, mine own familiar friend in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread,
hath lifted up heel against me; but thou, O LORD, be merciful unto me, and raise me up,
that I may requite them.

By this, I know that thou favourest me because mine enemy doth not triumph over me;
and as for me, thou upholdest me in mine integrity,
and settest me before thy face for ever.

Isaiah 33:1
Woe to thee that spoilest, and thou not spoiled;
and dealest treacherously, and they dealt not treacherously with thee!
When thou shalt cease to spoil, thou shalt be spoiled;
when thou shalt make an end to deal treacherously, they shall deal treacherously with thee.

As it is printed in the 1981 Salt Lake edition of the Book of Covenants (56:17-20) —

Wo unto you poor men whose hearts are not broken,
whose spirits are not contrite,
and whose bellies are not satisfied,
and whose hands are not stayed from laying hold upon other men’s goods,
whose eyes are full of greediness,
and who will not labor with your own hands!

But blessed are the poor who are pure in heart, whose hearts are broken,
and whose spirits are contrite,
for they shall see the Kingdom of God coming in power and great glory unto their deliverance,
for the fatness of the earth shall be theirs; for behold, the Lord shall come,
and his recompense shall be with him,
and he shall reward every man;
and the poor shall rejoice,
and their generations shall inherit the earth from generation to generation, forever and ever.

Revelation given through Joseph Smith the Prophet, at Hiram, Ohio, October 1831. HC 1:218. The Prophet designates this revelation as a prayer.

1 HEARKEN, and lo, a voice as of one sent down from on high, who is mighty and powerful, whose going forth is unto the ends of the earth, yea, whose voice is unto men — Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.

2 The keys of the kingdom of God are committed unto man on the earth, and from thence shall the gospel roll forth unto the ends of the earth, as the stone which is cut out of the mountain without hands shall roll forth, until it has filled the whole earth.

3 Yea, a voice crying — Prepare ye the way of the Lord, prepare ye the supper of the Lamb, make ready for the Bridegroom.

4 Pray unto the Lord, call upon his holy name, make known his wonderful works among the people.

5 Call upon the Lord, that his kingdom may go forth upon the earth, that the inhabitants thereof may receive it, and be prepared for the days to come, in the which the Son of Man shall come down in heaven, clothed in the brightness of his glory, to meet the kingdom of God which is set up on the earth.

6 Wherefore, may the kingdom of God go forth, that the Kingdom of Heaven may come, that thou, O God, mayest be glorified in heaven so on earth, that thine enemies may be subdued; for thine is the honor, power and glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Psalm 109:7–8
When he shall be judged, let him be condemned, and let his prayer become sin;
let his days be few;
let another take his office.

Proverbs 13:16-17
Every prudent dealeth with knowledge; but a fool layeth open folly.
A wicked messenger falleth into mischief; but a faithful ambassador, health.

As the holy Meshiach had prophesied
unto a remnant of Lehi of Manasseh, and of Ishmael of Ephraim, and of Mulok/Mulek of Judah,
and also of the Zoramites,
even as it has been interpreted into the English in “3 Nephi”:

in that day for my sake,
shall the Father work a work which shall be a great and a marvellous work among them;
and there shall be among them,
which will not believe it, although a man shall declare it unto them;
but behold, the life of my servant shall be in my hand;
therefore, they shall not hurt him, although he shall be marred because of them; yet I will heal him,
for I will shew unto them that my wisdom is greater than the cunning of the devil;
therefore, it shall come to pass that
whosoever will not believe in my words, which am Jesus Christ,
which the Father shall cause him to bring forth unto the Gentiles,
and shall give unto him power that he shall bring them forth unto the Gentiles
– it shall be done, even as Moses said –
they shall be cut off from among my people which are of the covenant

Mormon’s counsel unto the remnant of the seeds of himself and of his brethren,
of both the Nephites and the Lamanites,
in (smaller, but with the same name) “book of Mormon” in The Book of Mormon:

ye will also know that ye are a remnant of the seed of Jacob;
therefore, ye are numbered among the people of the first covenant.

And if it so be that ye believe in Christ, and are baptized,
first with water, then with fire and with the Holy Ghost, following the example of our Savior,
according to that which he hath commanded us,
it shall be well with you in the day of judgement. Amen.

And it came to pass that when they had all given glory unto Jesus,
he saith unto them:

Behold, now I finish the commandment which the Father hath commanded me
concerning this people which are a remnant of the house of Israel.
Ye remember that I spake unto you, and said that when the words of Isaiah should be fulfilled
– behold, they are written, ye have them before you, therefore search them –
and verily, verily I say unto you that when they shall be fulfilled,
then is the fulfilling of the covenant which the Father hath made unto his people, O house of Israel,
and then shall the remnants which shall be scattered abroad upon the face of the earth,
be gathered in from the east, and from the west, and from the south, and from the north;
and they shall be brought to the knowledge of the Lord their God who hath redeemed them.

-“3 Nephi”

In chapter II of A Book of Commandments, for the Government of the Church of Christ (the printing of which in 1833 had been halted by a mob attack; incidentally, the change in the name of the Lord’s congregation, as a whole, came about by revelation in the aftermath of the initial, collective failure to establish the United Firm that was commanded of the Lord), the same message is found —

“my work shall go forth and accomplish my purposes, for as the knowledge of a Savior has come into the world, even so shall the knowledge of my people, the Nephites, and the Jacobites, and the Josephites, and the Zoramites, come to the knowledge of the Lamanites, and the Lemuelites and the Ishmaelites, which dwindled in unbelief, because of the iniquities of their fathers, who have been suffered to destroy their brethren, because of their iniquities, and their abominations: and for this very purpose are these plates preserved which contain these records, that the promises of the Lord might be fulfilled, which he made to his people; and that the Lamanites might come to the knowledge of their fathers, and that they might know the promises of the Lord, and that they may believe the gospel and rely upon the merits of Jesus Christ, and be glorified through faith in his name; and that through their repentance they might be saved: Amen.”

{The foregoing passage is the final part of what is probably the very first written revelation, outside of translating the abridged history engraved upon the Book of Mormon plates, given unto Joseph the prophet; it is said to be reliably dated to sometime in July 1828, and was received by Joseph the Seer, either by means of the breastplate with the urim and the thummim – called “interpreters”, and also “directors”, in all the original editions of the Book of Mormon, and subsequently referred to only as “interpreters”, such as in the 1981 edition still published by The corporate Church of Grant of Kimball of Hinckley of Monson – or by his own seer stone; variations of said word of the Lord are found in all editions of the book Doctrine and Covenants, by which title all subsequent editions of the book of Joseph the Seer have been known; either thus, or per the aforementioned Nov. 1, 1831 revelation, “the Book of my – Christ’s – Commandments“; by reason of the which, the very first attempt at publishing a compilation of these latter-day revelations of Christ pronounced through His anointed, Joseph, was with the title A Book of Commandments, for the Government of the Church of Christ.}

Lehi “also spake unto Lemuel: O that thou mightest be like unto this valley, firm and steadfast and immovable in keeping the commandments of the Lord!” First book of Nephi.

“ye should be steadfast and immovable, always abounding in good works, that Christ the Lord God Omnipotent may seal you his” Book of Mosiah.

“they were steadfast and immovable in keeping the commandments of God, and they bore with patience the persecution which was heaped upon them.” Book of Alma the son of Alma.

“a few of the Lamanites, which were converted unto the true faith, and they would not depart from it, for they were firm and steadfast and immoveable, willing with all diligence to keep the commandments of the Lord.” Book of Nephi the son of Nephi which was the son of Helaman.

I. Corinthians 15:58
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable,
always abounding in the work of the Lord,
forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

“be strong and of a good courage”  Deuteronomy 31:6,7,23; Joshua 1:6,9,18.
“be strong and of good courage”  Joshua 10:25; I. Chronicles 22:13, 28:20.

{Now look up the English definitions of the Hebrew words for “mighty” and “strong” in Isaiah 28, as in: “Behold, the Lord hath a mighty and strong one”.}

The one prophesied in Isaiah 28 and in “D&C” 85, is the same messenger of the holy Messiah as the “one mighty” (rather, one faithful, etc.) of whom father Lehi prophesied, as follows from the second book of Nephi:

“And now behold, my son Joseph, after this manner did my father of old prophesy; wherefore because of this covenant, thou art blessed, for thy seed shall not be destroyed, for they shall hearken unto the words of the Book, and there shall raise up one mighty among them, which shall do much good, both in word and in deed, being an instrument in the hands of God with exceeding faith to work mighty wonders, and do that thing which is great in the sight of God unto the bringing to pass much restoration unto the house of Israel, and unto the seed of thy brethren. And now, blessed art thou, Joseph; behold, thou art little; wherefore, hearken unto the words of thy brother Nephi, and it shall be done unto thee even according to the words which I have spoken. Remember the words of thy dying father, amen.”

I will raise me up a faithful priest, shall do according to which in mine heart and in my mind;
and I will build him a sure house, and he shall walk before mine anointed for ever.
And it shall come to pass,
every one that is left in thine house shall come,
crouch to him for a piece of silver and a morsel of bread,
and shall say:

Put me, I pray thee, into one of the priests’ offices,
that I may eat a piece of bread.

-This word of the Lord unto Eli the Levite is yet recorded in the first book of Samuel 2:35-36, even in the English Bible

That “one mighty” spoken of by Lehi is also named “Gazelem” in the book of Alma:

And the Lord said:

I will prepare unto my servant Gazelem, a stone which shall shine forth in darkness unto light,
that I may discover unto my people which serve me,
that I may discover unto them, the works of their brethren;
yea, their secret works, their works of darkness, and their wickedness and abominations.

And now my son, these directors were prepared,
that the word of God might be fulfilled

It is recorded in the record of Luke that Christ said:

nothing is secret that shall not be made manifest, neither hid that shall not be known and come abroad.
Take heed therefore how ye hear;
for whosoever hath, to him shall be given,
and whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have.

Matthew 22:36-40
Master, which [is] the great commandment in Torah?

Iesus said unto him:

Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind;
this is the first and great commandment,
and the second [is] like unto it:
Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
On these two commandments, hang all the Law and the Prophets.

“Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love [is] the fulfilling of the Law.” Romans 13:10.

“Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and [of] a good conscience, and [of] faith unfeigned:” 1 Timothy 1:5.

Proverbs 25:21-22
If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat;
and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink,
for thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee.

As it is recorded in the book of Nephi which is the son of Nephi, one of the disciples of Jesus Christ —
in the thirty and sixth year,
the people were all converted unto the Lord, upon all the face of the land, both Nephites and Lamanites,
and there was no contentions and disputations among them,
and every man did deal justly one with another, and
they had all things common among them;
therefore there were not rich and poor, bond and free,
but they were all made free and partakers of the heavenly gift.
And it came to pass that two hundred years had passed away,
and the second generation had all passed away, save it were a few.
And now I, Mormon, would that ye should know that the people had multiplied,
insomuch that they were spread upon all the face of the land,
and that they had become exceedingly rich because of their prosperity in Christ.
And now in this two hundred and first year,
there began to be among them those who were lifted up in pride,
such as the wearing of costly apparel, and all manner of fine pearls, and of the fine things of the world;
and from that time forth,
they did have their goods and their substance no more common among them,
and they began to be divided into classes;
and they began to build up churches unto themselves to get gain,
and began to deny the true church of Christ.
And it came to pass that when two hundred and ten years had passed away,
there were many churches in the land

“Thy name shall be called no more Jacob {supplanter}, but Israel, for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.” Genesis 32:28.

Who will rise up for me against the evildoers?
Who will stand up for me against the workers of iniquity?

Unless the LORD my help, my soul had almost dwelt in silence.
When I said, My foot slippeth –
thy mercy, O YHVH, held me up;
in the multitude of my thoughts within me, thy comforts delight my soul.

-Psalm 94:16-19

Some of the final written words of Moroni, the son of Mormon, unto this generation of these the very last days:

and except ye have CARITAS, ye can in no wise be saved in the kingdom of God;
neither can ye be saved in the kingdom of God, if ye have not faith;
neither can ye, if ye have no hope; and if ye have no hope, ye must needs be in despair,
and despair cometh because of iniquity.
And Christ truly said unto our fathers:

If ye have faith {confidence in both Christ and oneself}, ye can do all things which is expedient unto me.

And now, I speak unto all the ends of the earth, that
if the day cometh that the power and gifts of God shall be done away among you,
it shall be because of unbelief;
and wo be unto the children of men, if this be the case, for there shall be none that doeth good among you, no not one;
for if there be one among you that doeth good, he shall work by the power and gifts of God;
and wo unto them which shall do these things away and die, for they die in their sins,
and they cannot be saved in the kingdom of God; and I speak it
according to the words of Christ, and I lie not; and I exhort you to remember these things,
for the time speedily cometh that ye shall know that I lie not,
for ye shall see me at the bar of God, and the Lord God will say unto you:

Did I not declare my words unto you, which was written by this man, like as one crying from the dead?
Yea, even as one speaking out of the dust?

I declare these things unto the fulfilling of the prophecies; and behold,
they shall proceed forth out of the mouth of the everlasting God, and his word shall hiss forth,
from generation to generation. And God shall shew unto you that
that which I have written is true.

And again, I would exhort you that ye would come unto Christ, and lay hold upon every good gift,
and touch not the evil gift nor the unclean thing.

-Book of Moroni (Excerpted from chapter 10 – this text is as shown in the original 1830 printing thereof,
save the punctuation, and the word arrangement, and a Latin word spelled out as “CARITAS”,
in place of the actually printed “charity”; either word signifies goodwill, benevolence,
even the pure love for one’s fellow human beings in behalf of Christ and his Father the Supreme Creator.)

Revelation 3:12
Him that overcometh, will I make a pillar in the temple of my God,
and he shall go no more out; and I will write upon him
the name of my God,
and the name of the city of my God, new Jerusalem which cometh down out of heaven from my God,
and my new name.

And these are the final words of the book of Moroni, in the Book of Mormon:

And now I bid unto all, farewell.
I soon go to rest in the paradise of God, until my spirit and body shall again reunite,
and I am brought forth triumphant through the air, to meet you before the pleading bar {professor Skousen is correct to reason that “pleasing” had to have been an error in transcribing Joseph’s dictation}
of the great Jehovah the Eternal Judge of both quick and dead, amen.

THE 1921 EDITION. In 1920, President Heber J. Grant assigned a committee of six members of the Council of the Twelve to prepare a new edition of the Doctrine and Covenants. The major change in the 1921 edition was the removal of the “Lectures on Faith,” which were not considered to be revelations. The committee also revised the footnotes and divided the pages into double columns. Even though the name of the collection had been changed in the 1835 edition to signal the addition of the “Lectures on Faith,” it was not changed back when the lectures were deleted. The 1921 edition was the standard until 1981.

Notwithstanding that the said, curtailed edition of 1921 was published under the direction of
the unfaithful apostle Heber J. Grant and his committee of six editors,
a baleful prophecy concerning their successors (and also, the strange death of Brigham Young) is found intact on page 207 thereof (as well as in the similarly curtailed, successor edition of 1981), as follows:

Of various things did the Psalmist prophesy

11  The LORD knoweth the thoughts of man, that they [are] vanity.

12  Blessed [is] the man whom thou chastenest, O LORD, and teachest him out of thy law;

13  That thou mayest give him rest from the days of adversity, until the pit be digged for the wicked.

14  For the LORD will not cast off his people, neither will he forsake his inheritance.

15  But judgment shall return unto righteousness: and all the upright in heart shall follow it.

16  Who will rise up for me against the evildoers?  [or] who will stand up for me against the workers of iniquity?

17  Unless the LORD [had been] my help, my soul had almost dwelt in silence.

18  When I said, My foot slippeth; thy mercy, O LORD, held me up.

19  In the multitude of my thoughts within me thy comforts delight my soul.

-Psalm 94:11-19

Orson Pratt (Journal of Discourses, vol. 15, pg. 316)
There was a man in ancient times, named David, and because he was a man after God’s own heart, the Lord chose him to be king over Israel.  The Lord also greatly blessed this man, and poured out richly upon him the spirit of prophecy and revelation, and many of his psalms, which we now sing with so much pleasure in our meetings, contain prophecies relating to the most remote generations of the human family.

Why the necessity of suffering in the mortal flesh for eternal happiness (of varying degrees) in the resurrection?

And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It [is] my people: and they shall say, The LORD [is] my God.

-Zechariah 13:9

The same concept is presented in Republic, by Platon of old also. For when a blacksmith makes a useful tool — that which be NOT reckoned ‘belial’, even that which is NOT dross — the raw material thereof (in his case, iron) must needs endure a ‘trial by fire’.

1  Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;

2  That he no longer should live the rest of [his] time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.

-I. Peter 4:1-2

For this thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully.
For what glory, if when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently?
but if when ye do well, and suffer, ye take it patiently, this acceptable with God.
For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example,
that ye should follow his steps:

-I. Peter 2:19-21

A city is builded, and set upon a broad field, and is full of all good things.
The entrance thereof is narrow, and is set in a || dangerous place {|| Or, steep place}
to fall, like as if there were a fire on the right hand,
and on the left a deep water. And one only path between them both,
even between the fire and the water, [so small]
that there could but one man go there at once.
If this city now were given unto a man for an inheritance,
if he never shall pass the danger set before it,
how shall he receive this inheritance?

And I said:
It is so, lord.

Then said he unto me:
Even so also is Israel’s portion.
Because for their sakes I made the world,
and when Adam transgressed my statutes, then was decreed that now is done.

-II. ESDRAS 7.6-11. (a passage from APOCRYPHA of the 1611 Authorized Version of the English Bible, putatively from an extant Latin text)

The etymology or the literal meaning of the English word apocrypha, is thus furnished in Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary (11th ed.):  Medieval Latin, from Late Latin, neuter plural of apocryphus secret, not canonical, from Greek apokryphos obscure, from apokryptein to hide away, from apo– + kryptein to hide. (circa 14th century)

20  Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech [you] by us: we pray [you] in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.

-II. Corinthians 5:20

For behold, the Lord God has led away from time to time from the house of Israel, according to his will and pleasure.  And now behold, the Lord remembereth all them who have been broken off, wherefore he remembereth us also.

Therefore, cheer up your hearts, and remember that ye are free to act for yourselves—to choose the way of everlasting death or the way of eternal life.

Wherefore, my beloved brethren, reconcile yourselves to the will of God, and not to the will of the devil and the flesh; and remember, after ye are reconciled unto God, that it is only in and through the grace of God that ye are saved.

Wherefore, may God raise you from death by the power of the resurrection, and also from everlasting death by the power of the atonement, that ye may be received into the eternal kingdom of God, that ye may praise him through grace divine.  Amen.

1981 Doctrine and Covenants 29:39 (received by the apostle Joseph Smith junior)
And it must needs be that the devil should tempt the children of men, or they could not be agents unto themselves; for if they never should have bitter they could not know the sweet—

{On June 14, 2011 anno Domini, this page was updated, primarily for to insert herein aforesaid Latin Esdras passage that is found in the 1611 Authorized Version of the Bible in the English language; let it benefit whomsoever may be prepared to receive all truths of Messiah who is verily Christos Amen; “when the day cometh that the only begotten of the Father, yea, even the Father of heaven and of earth, shall manifest himself unto them in the flesh, behold, they will reject him, because of their iniquities, and the hardness of their hearts, and the stiffness of their necks. Behold they will crucify him, and after that he is laid in a Sepulcher for the space of three days, he shall rise from the dead, with healing in his wings, and all they that shall believe on his name, shall be saved in the Kingdom of God; wherefore, my soul delighted to prophesy concerning him, for I have seen his day, and my heart doth magnify his holy name. And behold it shall come to pass, that after the Messiah hath risen from the dead, and hath manifested himself unto his people, unto as many as will believe on his name, behold, Jerusalem shall be destroyed again: for wo unto them that fight against God and the people of his church. Wherefore, the Jews shall be scattered among all nations; yea, and also Babylon shall be destroyed; wherefore, the Jews shall be scattered by other nations; and after that they have been scattered, and the Lord God hath scourged them by other nations, for the space of many generations, yea, even down from generation to generation, until they shall be persuaded to believe in Christ, the Son of God, and the atonement, which is infinite for all mankind; and when that day shall come, that they shall believe in Christ, and worship the father in his name, with pure hearts, and clean hands, and look not forward any more for another Messiah, then, at that time, the day will come that it must needs be expedient that they should believe these things, and the Lord will set his hand again the second time to restore his people from their lost and fallen state. Wherefore, he will proceed to do a marvelous work, and a wonder among the children of men. Wherefore, he shall bring forth his words unto them, which words shall judge them at the last day, for they shall be given them for the purpose of convincing them of the true Messiah, who was rejected by them; and unto the convincing of them that they need not look forward any more for a Messiah to come, for there should not any come, save it should be a false Messiah, which should deceive the people: for there is save one Messiah spoken of by the prophets, and that Messiah is he which should be rejected of the Jews. For according to the words of the Prophets, the Messiah cometh in six hundred years from the time that my father left Jerusalem; and according to the words of the Prophets, and also the word of the Angel of God, his name shall be Jesus Christ the Son of God. And now my brethren, I have spoken plain, that ye cannot err; and as the Lord God liveth, that brought Israel up out of the land of Egypt, and gave unto Moses power that he should heal the nations, after that they had been bitten by the poisonous serpents, if they would cast their eyes unto the serpent which he did raise up before them, and also gave him power that he should smite the rock, and the water should come forth; yea, behold I say unto you, that as these things are true, and as the Lord God liveth, there is none other name given under heaven, save it be this Jesus Christ of which I have spoken, whereby man can be saved. Wherefore, for this cause hath the Lord God promised unto me that these things which I write, shall be kept and preserved, and handed down unto my seed, from generation to generation, that the promise may be fulfilled unto Joseph, that his seed should never perish as long as the earth should stand. Wherefore, these things shall go from generation to generation, as long as the earth shall stand; and they shall go according to the will and pleasure of God;”  The Book of Mormon (1st ed., of the year 1830), pgs. 104-105, the second book of Nephi.}

An apocalyptic vision shown to the presiding apostle John Taylor, weeks after the demise of Brigham the Man of Sin

That Brigham Young — who was poisoned unto his untimely demise, but not via John Taylor whom he had unjustly detested and mocked and persecuted, for the Lord has said that the wicked shall slay the wicked — that Brigham Young is “that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition” as prophesied by Paul in II. Thessalonians 2:3, this truth I did obtain of the Holy Ghost during the week of December 19, 2010 — thus I testify in the name of Messiah who is Christ the Saviour of Samuel H. Smith, amen.

Salt Lake City, Utah

I retired to bed about half past nine. That evening I had been
reading a revelation contained in the Doctrine and Covenants and
my mind was calmer if possible than usual. I could not sleep. I felt
a dreamy feeling coming over me, and soon I became partially
unconscious as to where I was.

Presently I discovered that I was in the Ogden Tabernacle sitting on
a back seat to avoid being called upon to speak. After the second hymn
was sung, I was called to the stand. I arose and said that I did not
know that I had anything special to say further than to bear my
testimony as to the truthfulness of the Gospel.

Then I seemed to be lifted, as it were, out of myself and said,
“Yes, I have something to say which is this: Some of the brethren
have been asking me concerning coming events, and I will now tell you
some of the things which will shortly come to pass.”

I then found myself wandering about the streets of Salt Lake City and
noticed on the doors of every house, including my own, badges of
mourning, and said to myself, can it be possible that I am dead?
Just then I heard a voice say, “No, you will live through it all.”
No one seemed to be passing along the streets and everything was
as still as death, except the prayers of the people that could be
heard in the houses. I saw no funerals, and the scourge or
whatever it was, seemed to be under control.

I then looked over the country; in every direction as far as I could
see, a similar condition prevailed. I then passed eastward above
the earth and looking down saw many people coming west, mostly women
who were carrying small bundles on their backs, and I thought it
strange that there were so few men among them. They were on their way
to the mountains, and I wondered how they could get there as the
railroads were abandoned and the rails were in bad condition.

I continued on my way passing through Omaha, Council Bluffs, and Iowa,
and saw many women moving about in an excited manner. Sickness and
death prevailed on all sides. The inhabitants of Illinois and Missouri
were in dreadful condition, the men and women killing each other
in the most brutal manner.

Next I visited the City of Washington, D.C., and found the place
deserted and in ruins. From there I went to Baltimore and on the
square, where stands the monument of 1812, dead bodies of the
inhabitants of the place were piled in heaps. While there I saw
mothers cut the throats of their own children and drink the blood in
order to quench their thirst. The waters of the Chesapeake
Bay were so befouled from the effect of dead bodies that the water
could not be used. Sickness and death prevailed throughout the city
and the stench was something awful.

I thought surely that this must be the end of suffering, but
when I visited the City of Philadelphia, I found the place in ruins
and the smell from dead bodies was beyond anything one could imagine.

In New York I saw men crawl out of cellars, ravish beautiful women,
kill them and rob them of their jewels. I saw parents eating the flesh
of their own offspring and then roll over and die. Looking back while
on my way to Central Park, I saw fire break out and a heavy wind
carried the flames over the city, and all the buildings, wharfs and
ships in the harbor were burned. The stench from the burning bodies
was carried by the wind across the Hudson River spreading death and
destruction wherever it went. The sights that met my view on all sides
were so horrible to look upon that it would be impossible for me
to describe them.

After these scenes had passed, I found myself standing on the left
bank of the Missouri River, just opposite to where stood the City of
Independence and soon discovered that the states of Illinois,
Missouri, and part of Iowa had been swept clean of its inhabitants and
the surrounding country was a complete wilderness.

A short distance across the river, I beheld twelve men dressed in
their temple robes standing in a square with their hands raised, and
it was made known to me that they represented the twelve gates of the
new Jerusalem. They then consecrated the grounds and laid the
cornerstones of the city and temple; and while they were doing so, I
saw myriads of heavenly angels hovering over them. I heard the most
beautiful music and singing that I ever listened to and these were
the words they repeated: “Now is established the Kingdom of
our God and His Christ which shall no more be thrown down or given
to another people.”

<A few minutes before 1 am, on Oct. 30, 2008, the angels’ words
quoted immediately above were witnessed to me by the power
of the Holy Ghost.>

I then saw a multitude of people coming from various directions
to take part in the upbuilding of the city and temple and even
the angels were on hand to assist in the glorious work. A great cloud
arose above them and many of the saints were clothed in their temple

All of a sudden I found myself standing at the pulpit of the Ogden
Tabernacle, yet I could see the building of the city of Zion and
temple going on and the cloud that hovered above the place.

I had become so animated by this time that I called upon the
congregation to listen to the sweet music and singing of the angels
that seemed to fill the house. Then I heard a voice say, “Now has come
to pass that which was spoken by the mouth of Isaiah the Prophet,
where he declares that ‘Seven women shall take hold of one man saying,
We will eat our own bread and wear our own apparel, only let us be
called by thy name to take away our reproach.’ “

By this time I was so exhausted that I staggered backwards, and
Brother Franklin D. Richards and some of the other brethren caught me
before I fell. I then asked Brother Richards to apologize for me
stopping so abruptly in my remarks, and to tell them that I had
not fainted, but was overcome from exhaustion. I then rolled over
in bed and the clock in the City and County Building struck twelve.

John Taylor, Journal of Discourses 20:318-319 (10/06/1879)
Need we be surprised that people should feel inimical to the Gospel of Jesus Christ? No. Need we be surprised that men, as the scriptures say, “should wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived?” No. We have preached it–I have preached it upwards of forty years in this nation and in other nations. Need we be surprised that they should trample under foot the Constitution of the United States? No; Joseph Smith told us that they would do it. Many around me here knew long ago that they would do this thing and further knew that the last people that should be found to rally around that sacred instrument and save it from the grasp of unrighteous men would be the Elders of Israel! When, therefore, we see these things progressing need we be astonished? I do not think we need be. Some of our people you know, who are a little shaky and get how? Why a little astride of the fence, and say “good Lord and good devil,” not knowing into whose hands they will fall; when they see some of these things transpiring they are filled with amazement; but men who understand themselves, and who are in possession of the gift of the Holy Ghost and the Spirit of the living God, are looking for such things and they are not at all surprised. Were we surprised when the last terrible war took place here in the United States? No; good Latter-day Saints were not, for they had been told about it. Joseph Smith had told them where it would start, that it should be a terrible time of bloodshed and that it should start in South Carolina. But I tell you today the end is not yet. You will see worse things than that, for God will lay his hand upon this nation, and they will feel it more terribly than ever they have done before; there will be more bloodshed, more ruin, more devastation than never they have seen before. Write it down! You will see it come to pass; it is only just starting in. And would you feel to rejoice? No; I would feel sorry. I knew very well myself when this last war was commencing, and could have wept and did weep, over this nation; but there is yet to come a sound of war, trouble and distress, in which brother will be arrayed against brother, father against son, son against father, a scene of desolation and destruction that will permeate our land until it will be a vexation to hear the report thereof. Would you help to bring it about? No, I would not; I would stop it if I could. I would pour in the oil and the wine and balm and try to lead people in the right path that will be governed by it, but they won’t.

56 And at that day, when I shall come in my glory, shall the parable be fulfilled which I spake concerning the ten virgins.

57 For they that are wise and have received the truth, and have taken the Holy Spirit for their guide, and have not been deceived—verily I say unto you, they shall not be hewn down and cast into the fire, but shall abide the day.

58 And the earth shall be given unto them for an inheritance; and they shall multiply and wax strong, and their children shall grow up without sin unto salvation.

59 For the Lord shall be in their midst, and his glory shall be upon them, and he will be their king and their lawgiver.

-Doctrine and Covenants 45:56-59 (received by the Prophet Joseph)

John Taylor, JD 20:255 (August 3, 1879)
woe to those men who fight against Israel. In the name of Israel’s God, they shall be wasted away, and you may write it down and see whether it comes to pass or not. And let all Israel say Amen.

John Taylor, JD 21:8 (August 31, 1879)
And then the day is not far distant when this nation will be shaken from centre to circumference. And now, you may write it down, any of you, and I will prophesy it in the name of God. And then will be fulfilled that prediction to be found in one of the revelations given through the Prophet Joseph Smith. Those who will not take up their sword to fight against their neighbor must needs flee to Zion for safety. And they will come, saying, we do not know anything of the principles of your religion, but we perceive that you are an honest community; you administer justice and righteousness, and we want to live with you and receive the protection of your laws, but as for your religion we will talk about that some other time. Will we protect such people? Yes, all honorable men.

John Taylor, JD 20:318-9 (October 6, 1879)
Were we surprised when the last terrible war took place here in the United States? No; good Latter-day Saints were not, for they had been told about it. Joseph Smith had told them where it would start, that it should be a terrible time of bloodshed and that it should start in South Carolina. But I tell you today the end is not yet. You will see worse things than that, for God will lay his hand upon this nation, and they will feel it more terribly
than ever they have done before; there will be more bloodshed, more ruin, more devastation than never they have seen before. Write it down! You will see it come to pass; it is only just starting in.

114 Nevertheless, let the bishop go unto the city of New York, also to the city of Albany, and also to the city of Boston, and warn the people of those cities with the sound of the gospel, with a loud voice, of the desolation and utter abolishment which await them if they do reject these things.

115 For if they do reject these things the hour of their judgment is nigh, and their house shall be left unto them desolate.

116 Let him trust in me and he shall not be confounded; and a hair of his head shall not fall to the ground unnoticed.

117 And verily I say unto you, the rest of my servants, go ye forth as your circumstances shall permit, in your several callings, unto the great and notable cities and villages, reproving the world in righteousness of all their unrighteous and ungodly deeds, setting forth clearly and understandingly the desolation of abomination in the last days.

118 For, with you saith the Lord Almighty, I will rend their kingdoms; I will not only shake the earth, but the starry heavens shall tremble.

119 For I, the Lord, have put forth my hand to exert the powers of heaven; ye cannot see it now, yet a little while and ye shall see it, and know that I am, and that I will come and reign with my people.

120 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. Amen.
